I’ve applied for a competition to win £50,000. This will help baffie get going online and support it over the next four years, as I develop the baffie brand anad open a retail outlet in Edinburgh.

The video is boring for the first minute, just me wittering on, but it’s worth hanging in there to see some gorgeous products by Cosima Sempill of Kitty and Dude fame, and my great friend and brilliant storyteller, Jessica Wilson. As well as this you will see a guest appearance by craftscotland’s Emma Walker and some lush choonage from Hoochie Fig’s Keith Paton. Big thanks to them.

I'm delighted that the Light Relief range is going to have it's first European adventure. In October 'Wee Bit' and 'Tiny Wee Bit' will be taking a trip to Hamburg for an exhibition wich will explore the metamorphisis of the everyday.

Bloomin' Wallpaper!

We met up yesterday to work on our Shaker ‘wallpaper’ which is made up of printed chairs, which will appear to be hung on the wall as in the Shaker tradition. We are now working on mixed media interventions to be introduced to the printed chairs by way of incorporating woven, painted and ceramic elements. This is turning out to be another great skills sharing excercise for us, and reinforces the importance of colaborating accross a number of disciplines. This piece has been concieved as an installation work, but we're also now looking towards having a functional version printed. We're hopeful we may even have a lucrative retailer on board to help with the production and distribution of 'Shaker' as a product, but thats all top secret for now I'm afraid. You'll have to keep watching this space to find out where and when you can get hold of your very own roll!

In the meantime, entertain yourselves with this; my first attempt at 'upholstering' one of my chair drawings with a living cushion of flowers.

Our flagship piece is the eponymously titled ‘Wee Bit of Light Relief’; a range of chandeliers in different sizes and configurations consisting of household chore related objects such as kitchen and cleaning utensils, delicately cast in low relief, white, Bone China. The objects hang from S hooks on a white three tiered frame which mimics a pan rack. The domestic accoutrements dangle, tinkling in the breeze, temporarily redundant, allowing for a break from the monotonous grind of housework to enjoy a moments light relief under the glamorous chandelier.

A Wee Bit of Light Relief is a collaborative venture by three Edinburgh based makers; Julia Douglas, Clare Waddle and Rebecca Wilson. The wealth of stimulus found in a house is what inspires the three to create well-crafted objects that are attractive, witty and challenging. Their practise as individuals straddles a variety of disciplines – Clare trained as a sculptor, Julia as a textile artist printmaker and Rebecca as a ceramicist. The aims of this project are to work collaboratively to create works as a collective and to learn new processes and skills from each other in order to not be constrained by material or technique. (the one in the middle is not a collaboration, all credit to Clare for wee Molly Mae!).
